Gabriel Grellet
Dedicated Marine Biology undergraduate student, experienced in the field of marine mammal science, with an emphasis on trophic ecology and ethology. Aspires to devote his life to studying this vital group of animals, not only for their conservation but also to better understand their ecological roles in various contexts of their distribution. Conducted research on the feeding habits and behaviour of the Franciscana (Pontoporia blainvillei). Has experience with megafauna surveys, marine fauna rehabilitation, and science communication. During the Darwin 200 program, joined research efforts for the Hemydactylus bouvieri census.

Hemidactylus bouvieri is a rare endemic species from the on Cape Verde. For its difficulty on finding it. Because its distribution seems to be restricted to high al tudes, around or 200 meters above, on the top of the mountains. It has been li le known about its ecology. Since it is considered a Critically Endangered species by the IUCN, because of its sensibilities to climate change and menaces such as the introduction of exotic species in Santa Luzia, low population densities and restricted distribution, it is believed that without strict protection measures, these populations could become extinct in any me soon. We hope that this expedition can bring more light to this ma er, so that in a way we can raise the awareness about one the most unique species in Cape Verde, that should be watched and protected and be er studied. This way we could change the perception of the general public about lizards and their threats so that this species could become a conservation on symbol for Cape Verde and the world.
