Raithlin diving – coral and sponges
The Darwin200 divers and young scientists surveyed a rocky reef off Rathlin Island.
Few people realise that the UK is home to extensive reefs with numerous coral species, such as these colour cup corals, as well as gardens of sponges and bryozoans, sea urchins, cushion stars and kelp forests.
Our corals are not reef forming species, but nevertheless are beautiful and an important part of our marine fauna.
