Misty sail to the Isles of Scilly
Charles Darwin set out to sail from Plymouth on his circumnavigation of the world. Likewise, the Darwin200 team are leaving for the beautiful Scilly Islands, famed for their beautiful beaches and sunny weather.
Darwin was so excited when beginning his voyage that he had heart palpitations and chest pains but he did tell anyone for fear of being rejected from taking part! Our team of sailors and young scientists are equally keen.
But on leaving Plymouth Darwin soon experienced the reality of sailing and became dreadfully seasick. As our Darwin200 ship set sail for the Isles of Scilly, it was also hit by bad weather but as usual, the team meet the challenges with good humour.
Eventually, we reach the Scilly Isles, which are famed for causing hundreds of ship wrecks over the centuries. As the Darwin200 ship arrives, the islands are beset with mist and fog which adds to the young scientists’ anticipation to get ashore!
